Desperation?
When we first received this Dooley campaign email from a tipster, two thoughts immediately came to mind. One, is the Dooley campaign that inept, that they think a potential ad buy from their likely Republican opponent Bill Corrigan signals that Corrigan fears his primary opponent? It’s also ironic to us, that a campaign that has burned through a million dollars of campaign cash in a year, now feels compelled to criticize their opponents about wasteful spending!
And two, this email’s main purpose seems to be more of a morale boost for Mr. Dooley’s supporters, than an attack on Mr. Corrigan per se. After a lackluster south county campaign office opening two weeks ago, and an embarrassing Facebook episode earlier this week, insiders tell us that the Dooley campaign is dispirited and worried.
Dispirited is not what we would call Mr. Corrigan’s supporters. Below is a screenshot of Corrigan’s Facebook page after he released his first campaign video yesterday:
What’s really sad – and tells you why political “reporter” Jo Mannies was put out to pasture at the Post Dispatch – is the fact that she swallows hook line and sinker Dooley’s explanation and writes her story in the St. Louis Beacon from the same angle as the Dooley press release. A freshman poli sci student could figure out Corrigan’s strategy of garnering name recognition for the fall by placing ads during the runup to the primary election. Another fine example of Mannie’s lazy journalism.
