EXCLUSIVE: African American Attorney Sends “Sad” E-Mail to Colleagues Regarding Nixon’s Curator Choice

As reported last week, for the first time in nearly 40 years there will not be an African American represented on the UM Board of Curators. Are African American attorneys mobilizing to put pressure on Gov. Nixon? Here’s an email we received this afternoon:

Subject: No African-Americans now serve on Univ of Missouri Board of Curators

Friends,

I am passing along two items concerning the University of Missouri. The first item is attached as a PDF version of The New York Times article about Lloyd Gaines’ lawsuit to desegregate the law school and Mr. Gaines’ untimely “disappearance” in 1939.  This article was published on July 12, 2009.

The second item is a cut-and-paste concerning the lack of African-Americans on the University of Missouri’s Board of Curators.

My apologies in advance for passing along two sad news stories.
