David Woodruff, campaign manager for Tommy Sowers, has a less-than-stellar record of past races.
∙ He managed Doug Harpool for Senate, which was a loss.
∙ He managed McNeil for Senate, which was also a loss.
∙ He managed Sam Page for Lt. Gov. – the only statewide-level Democrat loss in 2008.
∙ He managed Paul Hackett’s failed Congressional bid in Ohio.
Is this the best that Tommy can do? Or is Woodruff just somebody who needs a paycheck as these excerpts from recent Post Dispatch pieces seem to indicate:
(1/18/10) State Rep. Michael Corcoran, D-St. Ann, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the 24th District seat, reported raising $55,974.50 and spending $26,801.49 thus far…. Most of his spending was for David Woodruff, a political consultant.
(10/18/09) He [Corcoran] reported spending $22,778.94 thus far, including $8,502.25 in the reporting period. Much of his spending went to David Woodruff of St. Louis, a consultant.
If they are not putting someone at least competent at the head of the campaign, what does that say about Tommy? Either he knows he is not a serious candidate and he is in it just to provide extra income for floundering Democrat strategists, or he doesn’t have enough sense to choose a decent staff.

Woodruff is also tied to Sen Jeff Smith. He concocted the whole scheme of coordinated literature and not reporting costs which put Smith in prison….Tommy won’t be able to drive his pretty truck when he’s in prison if he follows this guy’s campaign finance advice. By the way, Tommy that pretty truck is a nice coordinated mobile campaign billboard. Don’t take Woodruff’s campaign finance advice.

I thought Jonathan Feifs was Tommy’s campaign manager. No, that can’t be right. He is not even registered to vote in Missouri and still maintains his home and family out East. So, you’re right, Woodruff must be the campaign manager.

Woodruff is a complete tool. Sam Page fired his ass and that’s why he’s working for Corcoran. Corcoran can’t win and Woodruff knows that by having him in the race, it’s denying Sam Page a state senate seat. Over paid ego who should be shipped out of the state.

How about Corcoran’s charges of DWI he’s on probation until July of 2011. Is that why he hired Woodruff?
