Congressman Talks, Listens to Constituents

U.S. Congressman Sam Graves visited Maryville on Wednesday to update constituents on the current legislative session in Washington. Graves though spent more time listening, as constituents asked about issues and solutions to problems.
“You really can learn a lot more by listening,” said Graves. “If you want to know what Missourians are thinking about, all you have to do is ask.”
Graves discussed the farm bill recently passed by the House. While stressing that it is not a perfect bill, Graves said that it was a bill that Missourians can live with.
The bill increases the role of bio-fuels in our energy supply, makes broadband more accessible to rural areas and provides a safety net for farmer and producers.
The bill also included an amendment by Graves to permanently ban anyone convicted of defrauding a USDA program from future eligibility.
“We have the safest, most abundant food supply in the world,” said Graves, the only Missourian on the Agriculture Committee. Read more…
