Six months into the majority, House Democrats have little to show in terms of new laws, but they say they have helped change the debate about the war in Iraq and claim credit for passing other measures that await action in the Senate.
Minority Whip Roy Blunt, R-Mo., argued that Democrats have gotten bogged down in legislation that had no chance of succeeding, pointing not only to the Iraq funding efforts but to last week’s veto — for the second time — of stem cell legislation.
“That’s an endemic problem of the way this Congress has functioned so far and one of the reasons they’re not getting anything done,” said Blunt. “They keep wanting to fight the same fight even when the outcome is certain. People eventually see that for what it is.” Read more…
