The City of St. Louis’s first set of red light enforcement cameras, at Hampton and Wilson and Chippewa and Hampton, are now operational.
Motorists who run red lights at these intersections will be issued a ticket. This live enforcement follows a warning period during which motorists who ran the red light were only issued a warning.
How red light cameras work: Red light cameras are triggered by sensors which are activated when a vehicle runs a red light. The cameras take two digital photos which document the violation and are mailed to the owner of the vehicle with the citation. The program operates 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. The system is only activated when a vehicle runs a red light and all intersections with red light cameras are clearly marked.
