African American clergy, community activists and local politicians held a press conference Monday on the steps of the Mel Carnahan Courthouse in support of St. Louis Circuit attorney Kim Gardner aganst attacks that her filing of crimminal charges against Gov. Eric Greitens was politically motivated. The press conference initially focused on percieved attacks on the circuit attorney by the Governor and his supporters. The event quickly turned into a Black Lives Matter themed gripe session on the perceived unfairness of the justice system towards African Americans, the poor and other minorities. At one point, Governor Greitens was called a racist without the offering of any proof to back up the claim and hints of further protests now that “spring is coming.”

According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch, at least thirteen GOP House members have signed a petition asking for the Governor’s resignation but the names so far won’t be released publicly.

“The reason is they are afraid of retribution,” Rep. Shamed Dogan, R-Ballwin, said of some of the members who signed the letter. Dogan was one of the members who told reporters Greitens should resign on Monday. Rep. Marsha Haefner, R-Oakville, was the other House Republican to appear before journalists. She said Wednesday that she didn’t have a copy.
