S-M-I Tool Provides Tax Burden Data at Your Fingertips

“Increasing America’s debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership.” — Sen. Barack Obama

In 2009, Dr. Arthur Laffer, one of the world’s most influential economists, teamed up with the Missouri-based Show-Me-Institute to equip the media – and ordinary citizens – with a powerful tool that allows us to compare tax burdens on property, income, sales and use, or anything else.

The database, which is formatted in a user-friendly way, includes:

* Individual state tax burden profiles

* A tool that allows the comparison of specific tax rates on items ranging from property to income to the glass of wine you may buy after hours.

* A 50-state ranking tool that allows you to customize your comparison, based on the category being taxed or year (starting from 1977). In other words, compare taxes based on location, type, or time. Check it out!

I’ve already been researching my shopping strategy in response to the results of the STL County prop A vote. Shopping in St. Charles County will save: 7.4% vs 9.25% (not to mention added tax by municipalities such as Maplewood). What am I saying! There is no more $$ to shop with -silly me.
