More Excuses From Montee After Filing Amended Campaign Finance Report

October 27th, 2009 by sclemons · No Comments

It’s pretty sad when the state auditor’s campaign finance report has errors! From our friends over at Missouri Political News 2.0:

Last week MPNblog.com identified errors in Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee’s (D) third quarter campaign finance report. On Thursday, Oct. 22, 5 days after our initial post, the Montee campaign filed an amended report with the Missouri Ethics Commission.

“Montee’s non-political committee contributions are difficult to itemize since 42 individuals contributing 21 percent of the total had no locational data included, as required under Missouri law (RSMo 130.120),” our story reported last week.

Montee’s campaign blamed the problems identified by MPN on software errors. Read more…

“Software errors” huh? Well at least that’s a better excuse than the one she gave in ’07 after we exclusively busted Jay using his state vehicle to ferry himself and his campaign staff around to campaign events:

JEFFERSON CITY _ State Auditor Susan Montee is making excuses for why Jay Nixon failed to provide a detailed financial accounting of his illegal use of a state vehicle for political purposes despite her half-hearted agreement to “audit” Nixon’s travel records.

As early as last week, Montee speculated how Nixon may have come up with his reimbursement for his illegal activity. “I’m guessing he came up with an estimate based on a calendar. I don’t know how else he would do it,” Montee told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. While Montee initially stated she would not audit Nixon, she has reversed course and agreed to Nixon’s request to review documents Nixon provides that have exposed his illegal activity to Missourians – thus continuing her role as Nixon’s political guard dog.
