“Armed with new poll numbers, MoDOT Director Pete Rahn came out today and asked the governor to veto a bill that would weaken Missouri’s mandatory helmet law.
In asking Gov. Jay Nixon to veto the bill, Rahn touted new poll numbers showing that 84 percent of Missourians support the mandatory helmet law that’s been in place since 1967.”
Look, we’re all about individual rights and libertarianism here at MOPNS, but any person with an ounce of common sense knows it would be absolutely insane to repeal the motorcycle helmet law. Why did the taxpayers need to pay for a poll to confirm the obvious? Since the Democrats big push this year will be health care reform, “No Way Jay” has plenty of cover to veto this bill. With this unnecessary expenditure of money, think of all the state issued ID’S that could have been bought for the “disenfranchised.”

Jay Nixon is good at spending money. He knows he can pass it on to the children.
I am for personal responsibilities. Going without a helmet is no different than picking up a pack of cigarettes each day over the course of you adult life. It’s eventually going to catch up with you. I think if you want to ride without a helmet, go for it, but don’t expect taxpayers to keep your vegetable existence alive.
As for experience, I would be a vegetable currently had I not placed a bicycle helmet on my head eight years ago. My girlfriend begged me to put it on, so I did. Nearly 30 miles into the ride, my buddy Tom went down in front of me. I rolled over his leg and went flying headfirst. I wear my helmet now. It should be a personal choice as long as you don’t expect to be baby sat after disaster.
