Corcoran Amendment Requires Medicaid Recipients to Attend Job Training

February 19th, 2009 by mopns · No Comments

Rep. Michael Corcoran District (D-77) today announced the House support on two important Amendments.

Representative Corcoran’s amendment to the Missouri Quality Jobs Act improvement bill (HB313-Yates) will increase state funds from $500,000 to $1 million to help emerging growth companies survive and grow during the start-up period when they are most vulnerable.

“Helping small businesses grow creates jobs and will help move our economy forward,” said Corcoran. “A healthy business environment benefits us all.”

Corcoran attached similar language to HB 191 (Flook), which has earned the support of the House as a whole and is seeking approval in the Senate Committee on Governmental Accountability and Fiscal Oversight.

Corcoran attached another amendment to HB 313. “My amendment requires MoHealthNet (Medicaid) recipients to attend job training and counseling classes and give themselves the opportunity to pull themselves off the HealthNet roles through increased salary from career training.” He will also attempt to attach the amendment to HB 190, relating to job development and training, in the Economic Development and Job Creation Committee. At this time, he has a verbal agreement with the Chair of the committee, Rep. Flook.
