Kansas Consultant Named as Nixon “Transition Advisor”

December 8th, 2008 by MarkTwain · No Comments

One of the first names on the press release announcing Jay Nixon’s transition advisors is Jim Bergfalk. Bergfalk is well know and active in the Kansas City area. He owns a consulting and lobbying firm with Democratic Jackson County Legislator Scott Burnett. But Bergfalk is an odd choice to help lead a Missouri transition team. You see, he lives in Kansas.

Not only does Bergfalk live in Mission, Kansas according to several research sources, he is a member of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission’s Kansas Lottery Gaming Facilities Review Board.

Nixon’s press release says he was standing with advisors “from across Missouri” and from “every region of Missouri.” Did Jay Nixon know that a prominent member of his transition team was not a resident of Missouri? If he knew, it is inconceivable that he didn’t care. Did he not research the members of his transition carefully enough to know that Bergfalk lived in Kansas? If he didn’t, that is the kind of sloppy work we are coming to expect from this Governor-elect.

The Nixon’s transition team’s attention to detail has been appalling, specifically when it comes to vetting their own members. If this is the level of competence we can expect from a Nixon administration this could be a very long four years.
