More Politicians Heading to Guam

January 2nd, 2008 by mopns · No Comments

The sunny island resort nation of Guam has become a very popular destination spot for our elected leaders recently.

Back in August, we reported to you that House Armed Services Committee Chairman Ike Skelton to a took a trip to the country to attend the Guam Industry Forum. According to it’s website, the forum was designed to “provide for interaction with industry related to the multi-billion dollar construction program for the anticipated military build up on Guam.”

Not willing to allow Skelton to have all the fun in the sun, we learn that House Leaders Roy Blunt and Steny Hoyer arrived on the island yesterday to also tour military bases and promise future pork to the local officials. According to Governor Felix Camacho, the leaders are on the island to“discuss many issues of the military buildup that will occur here over the next few short years.”

We ask again. When did Guam become so militarily important, especially in this new age of terrorism? Are the terrorists planning to take vacations in Guam first before they come to our shores to do us harm?
