Video: Cleaver Suggests Global Warming Disproportionately Affects Minorities

December 18th, 2007 by mopns · No Comments

At this House hearing on global warming a couple of weeks ago, Congressman Cleaver laments on his teenage years in Wichita Falls, Texas of growing up three hundred yards from a landfill and six hundred yards from a waste treatment plant. Cleaver describes how the smell “changed the tone” of his neighborhood, keeping people inside on windy days.

Later in the clip, Cleaver says its impossible to know how many people died from the pollutants in the air in his hometown, but he says with unsubstantiated confidence that it would be “considerable.” And to add insult to injury, Cleaver claims it takes 20% longer for African American communities to gain relief from the Super Fund Clean Up fund. Now, all these are important issues that need to be addressed. We just want to know what the hell any of it has to do with global warming?
