CDT: State Civil Rights Initiative Seeks to End Divisive Policies

The poignant article in the July 15 Tribune dealing with affirmative action and the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision outlawing the use of race as a dominant factor in school admissions serves to affirm what many already believe: Government efforts to engineer racial balancing and proportional representation are unwarranted, unsuccessful and increasingly unwelcome.

“Civil rights leaders prayed for the day when race would no longer be a consideration in civic life. Many of their self-identified successors continue to push the opposite,”the article said. This is why the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative is such an important ballot measure. The so-called civil rights leaders, such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, have twisted the meaning of equal treatment under the law.The Missouri Civil Rights Initiative is designed to eliminate state-sponsored discrimination through race preferences and move us closer to the color-blind promise of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
