Subject: Pending Resignation
Dear Colleagues,
Today, at noon, the attached Press Release will be sent out announcing my resignation from the legislature effective at 11:59pm tonight. The rumors have been rampant about this event so I am sure many of you are not surprised but I did want you to have advance notice of what was happening before it hit the press. I would ask that you not send it around or do anything with it until after that time. Also enclosed is my letter to the Speaker.
Last week we were on vacation in Florida and had the opportunity to spend time with some dear friends. We met this couple when we were all very young and stationed far from home while serving in the Air Force. We became family to each other and have remained so over the intervening 30 years. In that time I have discovered that a relationship like that is the exception, not the rule. Quite honestly, I never anticipated experiencing anything like that again, but I have been blessed.
My time in the legislature has provided me the opportunity to once again experience working with people for whom I have developed a deep sense of admiration and for whom I care very deeply. Just like in any family, there have been times when I liked some of you more than other times J but just like any other family we made it through those times. I am deeply appreciative of your support and kindness to me personally and for your sacrifice for your constituents and our state.
Debbie and I spent the last couple of days in Jefferson City packing up the office and preparing for the next phase of our lives (which will be announced very soon). Serving with you all has become a part of our life and it was difficult as we walked through the Chamber yesterday, ascended the dais one more time, and then turned off the lights in my office as we left the Capitol. But, just as in many families where you load up the moving van and depart for another adventure in life, I am hopeful that the relationships we have established professionally and personally will not be forgotten. I assure you that I will not forget.
Thank you for your support and your influence on my life. As they say, this is not the end but the beginning. Please know that I am available to assist you in anyway that I can.
May God bless you, your families and your service to our State. I know He has greatly blessed me.
With fondest regards,
Carl Bearden
