In the afterglow of a World Series victory last fall, and now with the team’s current losing woes, The St. Louis Post Dispatch has a story today that the beleaguered Cardinals’ organization would love to bury in the crater of the proposed “Ballpark Village.” What’s the old saying, “When it rains it pours?” Where was this story during the winning times? When Lee Enterprises bought the Post Dispatch last year, did they also buy the 4% of the team the paper owned?
There were never any guarantees that the organization would self finance Ball Park Village. Are we really surprised they’re now asking for millions of dollars worth of subsidies from the city?
There is also an interesting eminent domain twist in this drama dealing with the Bowling Hall of Fame. Who said controversial eminent domain cases only deal with private homeowners?
