Jeff Roe is committed to giving his all to the job at hand, even if the job at hand appears to require nothing at all.

Roe, a prominent Republican campaign strategist, appeared before the Liberty City Council Monday seeking clarification on the duties of city auditor — the position to which he was elected last month by 15 write-in votes and that has been considered for decades to be purely ceremonial.

Roe said the role of auditor is not merely honorary.

“I refuse the notion that because it was easier to leave the office in place than to abolish it that there is nothing for the office to do,” he said.

In his remarks to the council, Roe cited two passages from the Liberty City Code that mention the auditor position specifically and that he believes indicate oversight responsibilities for the office.
