From the Political Eye:
Rex Sinquefield (local right-wing multi-millionaire and school voucher supporter) gave $5,000 to state Rep. Jonas Hughes (a black Kansas City Democrat) on March 1, six days before Hughes voted for the school voucher bill (HB 808) on March 7.
There are at least two explanations for Jonas’ vote. One is that be believes in vouchers as policy. But if that is true, why does he need a $5,000 incentive only six days before the vote? The other explanation would be that he is making a political/fundraising calculation – in this case, that would be a $5,000 bet.
Perhaps Sinquefield – who is upfront about his willingness to support candidates who adhere to his views – is looking to create another Rodney Hubbard in Kansas City.
