Slay/Dooley Security Detail Under Scrutiny

Not only do St. Louis City and St. Louis County share the dubious distinction of providing free cars and free gas to certain highly paid employees, the two governments also provide taxpayer funded security for the mayor and the county executive.

Last October, St. Louis County police sources encouraged a local television station to investigate the security detail for county executive Charlie Dooley. Alderman Antonio Fench is looking to end that practice in the city.

Citing a shortage of cash and a surplus of violence, a city alderman has asked Mayor Francis Slay to put two additional officers on the street by relinquishing his personal security detail.

“In light of the recent increase in violent crime in our city, and also taking into account our city’s budget crisis, I respectfully request that you consider putting those two police officers back on the streets, ” French wrote. “I think that would send a strong message that you do understand the crisis our city is in, both in regards to crime and our finances.” Read more…

    Just curious. I understand Mr. Dooley is assigned a car for his business use . . . and that he also has an assigned security guard when he travels. My question is, “Does the security guard drive Mr. Dooley’s car or is a second car assigned to drive Mr. Dooley around?”
