Potential Ballot Initiative Gaining Attention

The battle lines are being drawn for the looming war on the question of reforming affirmative action in Missouri. African American members of the legislature held a press conference at the Capitol yesterday, denouncing a new group’s efforts to place an anti-affirmative action initiative on the November ’08 ballot.

The Lin County Leader conducted an online survey of their readers regarding affirmative action. Below is an excerpt from the article and the results.

LINN COUNTY – The results of the Linn County Leader’s (LCL) recent affirmative action reader opinion poll are in, and if they are any indication of what could occur at the polls in November, the hiring and admissions policy could be in for some stiff opposition here.

Seventy-one percent of LCL readers responding to the poll “strongly disagree” with the statement “as a hiring and college admissions policy that gives preference to women and applicants of color, the use of affirmative action should be continued. Read more…
