Better Courts For Missouri Coalition to Host “The Real State of the Judiciary” Today

February 5th, 2008 by mopns · No Comments

Better Courts for Missouri Coalition leaders are planning a press conference today to respond to Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith’s State of the Judiciary speech.

The “Real State of the Judiciary” response will be held at the Missouri State Capitol – In front of William Clark statue – @ 11:30 A.M. CT – Tuesday, February 5, 2008.

From the press release:

“The state of the judiciary is in peril. The credibility of the entire judiciary is undermined by a judicial selection process that is rigged, fixed and unaccountable to the citizens of Missouri.

The judicial selection process is not transparent and the public has no voice in the process. However, bipartisan measures are being sought to pass very moderate reforms that would make the judicial selection process open to the press and public.”

Scheduled speakers are Jonathan Bunch, Executive Director, Better Courts for Missouri; William Placke, Co-Founder, Better Courts for Missouri; William G. Eckhardt, Clinical Professor of Law & Director of Urban Affairs Outreach, University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law; The Honorable Sam Hais, former judge of the 21st Judicial Circuit; and Thomas Walsh, senior partner at large St. Louis law firm.

To schedule an interview with Jonathan Bunch, contact (573)635-0782, jon@newmoplan.com.
